Doctors:

APRIL MILES, DVM:  Dr. Miles has always wanted to be a veterinarian.  As a child, she would pretend to perform treatments and surgeries on her stuffed animals. She began full pursuit of this dream by graduating from University of California, Davis with a BS in Genetics. As an undergraduate, she worked with a top oncologist at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine researching canine mast cell tumors and genetic mutations associated with them. She later earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis with a duel emphasis in food and small animal medicine. While in veterinary school, she served as chief and coordinator of the Livestock Nursery at the California State Fair and aided in the delivery of hundreds of animals while educating excited fairgoers about farm animals. She also participated in numerous externships around northern California performing surgeries on cows, sheep and goats and working at an emergency hospital for small animals.  After graduation, she worked in Northern California for a year but the beaches of Southern California where calling her name.  She has practiced in Orange County for the last several years where she received more extensive surgical training.  Now she is very excited to call Villa Park Animal Clinic her professional home.

On her free time, Dr. Miles enjoys running, taking her dog to the beach, and paddle boarding.

VIRGINIA PHELPS, DVM:  Dr. Virginia Phelps is a 1981 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania  School of Veterinary Medicine.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree  in Biology from Wheaton College in Massachusetts and her Master’s Degree  in Physiology from The George Washington University in Washington D.C.  After completing veterinary school, she returned to her home state of California to pursue her career as a veterinarian.  Dr. Phelps and her husband, also a graduate of the University of  Pennsylvania, previously owned a practice in Westminster for over 20 years. Additionally, Dr. Phelps has worked at several hospitals locally; coincidentally, she and Dr. Watson practiced together for a year as early vet school graduates! She joined Villa Park Animal Clinic in 2010, sharing his commitment to high quality patient care…for the animals and their “owners”. She enjoys helping her clients manage their pet’s medical conditions with knowledge and compassion.

When not practicing veterinary medicine, she looks forward to spending time with her family and friends, stargazing, gardening, being entertained by her backyard hummingbirds, skiing (although not so much anymore) and texting her son at University of California San Diego. She and her husband have lived in Tustin for 26 years and currently share their home with 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 1 hermit land crab.
