Spaying and neutering are surgical procedures that play an important role in preventive health care. In female pets, spaying eliminates the risk of uterine infections (pyometra), a serious and potentially life-threatening condition, and significantly reduces the risk of mammary tumors when performed at an appropriate age. In male pets, neutering helps reduce the risk of prostate-related conditions and certain reproductive diseases.

At our clinic, these procedures are approached with careful planning and medical oversight. Patients are evaluated prior to surgery to ensure they are appropriate candidates for anesthesia, and protocols are adjusted based on each pet’s individual needs.

A current exam is required prior to scheduling surgery. Pre-operative bloodwork is also required, as it allows us to evaluate organ function and identify any underlying concerns before anesthesia. This helps ensure your pet’s safety and allows us to tailor anesthesia and care appropriately. Pets must also be up to date on vaccines prior to surgery.

Spay and neuter procedures are scheduled in advance to allow for proper preparation, monitoring, and recovery planning, supporting a safe and controlled surgical experience.
